My very first weight watchers weigh in

Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day Everyone!

I was extremely nervous and anxious about my first weigh in.  I was unsure of whether this whole WW thing actually would work for ME!

So today - I did my first weigh in.  I'm down 3.4 lbs.  When the receptionist said it, I immediately started having a party in my head - a food free party - but nonetheless, a party. I was ecstatic.  This actually worked for me.  So im gonna keep it up!

I know that its normal to lose between .5 and 2 lbs a week - so I wont expect 3.4 pounds every week - but what a way to start off!

Current plans - continue working out 5 days a week and staying within my daily point budget.

S/N - hubby is becoming more and more interested in eating my "good smelling" food

My first day of weight watchers!

Today, I went to my very first Weight Watchers meeting EVER!  I am super excited.  I work from home and I should TOTALLY be working right now, but I am so CURIOUS about being on Weight Watchers.

So.  I dont know if WW has a ticker or anything, but here are my stats:
Starting Weight - 188 lbs
Current Weight - 188 lbs (today is day 1)
mini goal (5%) - 179 lbs
long term goal - 150 lbs (or less :))

What made me join weight watchers:  Jennifer Hudson's commercials airing during the holidays WHILE stuffing my face.  I watched her on American Idol and thought she was pretty and talented, but now she is even more beautiful.   I cant wait for her episode on Dr. Oz to air today.

As far as fitness, I've been doing Zumba and Cardio Dance Party at my gym and i'm gonna start incorporating more strength training as well.

CURRENT MOOD:  Inspired! and Motivated!

TV Partner

Sometimes, just sometimes, I wish that the DH would indulge me, and watch some of the TV shows I like to watch.

When we first started dating 10 years ago - we were inseparable.  We watched TV together all of the time.

Now, he just "picks on me" for liking reality tv shows, oh well, what can u do?

Weight Loss Motivated

I was always the skinny girl.  In high school I didnt even weigh 100 lbs.  In undergrad, I was the 5'6 1/2" bombshell - weighing 115 pounds and garnering all the male attention I needed to keep my ego bigger....than my butt, lol.

Then, graduation happened.  Something about not walking the sloping hills and verdant green along with no terrible cafeteria food, made me start to balloon.

I took a year off in between undergrad and grad school.  When grad school started it was constant class/studying etc....and no time for exercising.  However, the soon-to-be-hubby was so good at carrying me snacks to keep me encouraged, motivated and energized......and gaining weight.  I didnt realize that I was gaining weight.  I just all of a sudden preferred to wear sweats all the time.  One day, the hubby - was like, "im tired of seeing you in sweats all the time, put on a nice outfit for me".....all of my jeans were too tight....I guess thats why I wasnt wearing them.

So I bought new jeans....and didnt lose any weight....

Skip forward to now....I'm again preferring sweat pants...I didnt even subconsciously realize that I was gaining even MORE weight than before... My sister came to visit me for the holidays - and she suggested that I try Weight Watchers - because it works.

I never considered a "program" before.  "Programs" are for fat people....thats not me.  Then every 10 seconds, a Jennifer Hudson commercial is coming on, and i'm giving it more thought....I wanna be skinny like Jennifer Hudson, maybe Weight Watchers can help me....  I jump on the scale - something I havent done in ages.... 188 lbs...I've never been this fat before.  So I decided that THIS TIME, I will be for real about my weight loss, eating right and exercising.  Today is Jan 6th, and i've exercised for 5 days straight M-F.   I've never done that before (since when i was an athlete in high school).  So today, I decided to research a little bit more about this Weight Watchers thing.  I did their online assessment...and guess what....I'm obese....im not fat, i'm obese, lol.  So I guess this "Program" could be for me, lol.

So, I think that I'm gonna join weight watchers.  Its time to lose the weight.  Its time to be a new me!  Wish me luck!

Update

So we got the house, we moved in on August 31 - it feels so surreal.  I keep feeling like someone's gonna come to the door and tell us to move, lol.

We've been working hard to at least get stuff put away.  We have NO furniture - I need new furniture for every room.  But its gonna be a process.  No need to go and get in over my head in debt trying to impress people.  Id just rather wait to I have the money and buy it outright.

We are avid HGTV'ers - so we've been enjoying the process of getting things the way we wanted it.  My grass is only 50% dead now, lol.  And my bushes are starting to sprout flowers.  There are so many things that we just did not know about homeownership and taking care of a home....like I was at home depot the other day ready to buy some annuals - so that they could come up every year.  Then the salesman asked me - have you looked at our perennials? - so i decided to engage and say....what exactly is a perennial?  He said they come up every year, annuals are only good for one year.....So I had them totally confused, lol.

My dog is enjoying the deck and the freedom to run around in the backyard.

more to come....gotta do some work, so i can afford the mortgage.

First Time Home Buyers

So the hubby and I have started the home buying process.  We are looking for a home in the Palmdale Area.  And we have found one that we love - again i know right.....lets check her out:
37311 Giavon Street, Palmdale CA

So we're in love with her - and we submitted an offer - its a short sale.  The sellers have approved our offer - so now we're waiting on the bank to approve us.

This is such an exciting time for us.  A little stressful - because we submitted our offer with no closing costs - so now we have to basically bring a million dollars to the table. (well maybe I exaggerated a little).

Pray for us!

Financial Peace University Graduate

7 days ago, my husband and I became graduates of Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University.  We have been eyeing a home in Palmdale...actually here she is:
5701 Finchley Road, Palmdale CA
7 bedrooms 3757 square feet and enough room to build our pool when we got the money.  We have been watching it for a few months.  Then I happened to check in on it, this past Sunday evening, and the price dropped from $335,000 to $307,000 a whopping $28,000.

I told myself, that we could not even begin to LOOK at homes until I had paid off my smallest credit card.  BUT....$28,000 how could we pass that up?

So, we decided to contact a lender to see how much house we could afford.  Well turns out - that because of all my massive student loan and credit card debt - we can only afford $175,000 worth of home and not $207,000 worth of home.... *tear*  I know.

I've been majorly sad all day.  But decided to re-focus and continue with my gazelle intensity.  I no longer have access to the free Dave Ramsey debt snowball calculator, but I found this aswesome debt snowball calculator.

As of April 20, 2011 we have a total of $130,793.87 of debt.  $15,996.50 is credit cards, the remaining balance is student loans.

My Debt snowball calculator says my expected debt free date is February 2022.  Yup, you read that right.  11 years from now, lol.  But, im not gonna let that discourage me.  I BELIEVE that I have the desire to get from under all of this debt, and do it as FAST as possible.  So no, this blog article does not say how I got out of debt in 2.5 months or something really incredible, but it does say that I have hope.  Hey, it was much more than that before, i've knocked out a pretty nice "lil" chunk.....but I still have a long ways to go.

I'll keep you guys updated on my progress.  Things that I do to penny pinch etc.

Extreme Couponing

I have recently begin (semi) extreme couponing and I am loving it....its time consuming and unsure of whether I would have sufficient time to devote to this weekly.  However, I am loving all of the savings, and my husband is loving all of the free deodorant and body wash. lol.
